Enter by 31st October 2025 for a chance to win up to 500EUR and have your article featured in the NATO ENSEC COE’s Energy Highlights journal! Our journal explores how to strengthen the energy resilience of the armed forces, and the interactions between energy security, the energy transition, and national security.

Guiding research questions for submissions:
- Trends in military energy: How is demand shifting, what might future needs look like, how resilient will supply be?
- Impact of energy transition on defence strategy: how is the push towards decarbonisation affecting military capability, and how are Allies responding?
- Emerging energy technologies for the military: Explore the latest advancements and breakthroughs in operational and/or estates energy sources.
- Civil-military interaction: In what ways can military and civilian sectors work together more effectively to ensure energy security into the future?
- Addressing risks posed by energy infrastructure vulnerabilities: What are some current risks; how can these risks be identified, assessed, and mitigated?
- Energy efficiency measures: where can NATO Allies focus their efficiency measures, how can demand be reduced without affecting capability?
Prizes:
- Best Overall: €500 and featured in the journal
- Best Student: €200 and featured in the journal

Eligibility:
- Entrants should be nationals of NATO nations or active partner nations, or affiliated with an educational institution within these nations.
- Students may submit articles for consideration in either the Best Overall or Best Student category.
Guidelines:
- Submit your article by 23:59EET on 31st October 2025.
- Entries must be in English and between 1500 – 3000 words.
- Results will be announced in early February 2026.
- Each entrant may submit one article.
