The NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence is pleased to announce the results of its Youth Video Competition, “How Prepared Am I for a Blackout?”
The competition invited young people from NATO member and partner nations to explore what a blackout could mean for everyday life and to share their ideas on energy resilience and preparedness.
Through their videos, participants highlighted the importance of being prepared for potential energy disruptions and showed how creative storytelling can contribute to greater awareness of energy security and resilience.
The Jury’s Top 5
After reviewing all submitted entries, the jury selected five videos for the Top 5, based on their relevance, originality, creativity, content quality and clarity, as well as their overall impact and engagement.
1st Prize (€300): “The Day Certainty Went Dark” by Carla Monté Sihuro
The other four jury-selected entries are:
- “Keeping the World on” by Kugu Scott
- “In Case of a Blackout” by Aris Dejeu
- “Reverse Silence” by Stavroula Zisi
- “Advancing Carbon Capture Utilization to Electricity Using Novel Janus Amine Cryogels via Nanoconfined-Ion Separation” by Sheyna Patel
As a special recognition of their achievement, all five Top 5 finalists will receive a NATO ENSEC COE gift bag.
People’s Choice Award
In addition to the jury’s selection, the competition gave the public an opportunity to choose their favourite video through an online voting process. The People’s Choice Award recognizes the engagement and interest generated by the video among viewers and reflects the audience’s response to the ideas and perspective presented.

We thank all participants for the time, creativity, and effort they put into their submissions. Every contribution helped broaden the conversation around energy resilience and encouraged greater awareness of the importance of preparedness.
