NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence hosted the Energy Efficiency in Military Operations Course (EEMOC) from 18–22 May 2026 in Vilnius, Lithuania. Co-organized with the US Naval Postgraduate School, the course was completed by 32 military and civilian specialists from various NATO and NATO Partner Nations.

The aim of the course was to enhance participants’ awareness and understanding of the importance of energy efficiency in military operations, as well as to promote the application of innovative energy-efficiency approaches to improve NATO capabilities at the tactical and operational levels. During the course, expert lecturers shared knowledge on challenges related to NATO’s energy security and energy-efficiency strategies and policies, the importance of energy efficiency for military forces, modern energy-management technologies, best practices in energy efficiency, and energy-management planning in the military domain.

The five-day course combined theoretical lectures with practical sessions. War-gaming exercises, syndicate work, group discussions, field trip, and industrial sessions distinguished EEMOC from traditional courses and provided participants with contemporary and interactive learning approaches.

Participants who visited a military training area had the opportunity to explore military energy infrastructure and observe real-life energy-efficiency solutions implemented in three different military camps.
